Curating the Culture

Recording artist Nina Simone once said, “artists will tell the story.”
I am a Black female emerging abstract artist from the dirty South. I use abstract painting as a way to illustrate current events.
I use a mix of acrylic paint, molding paste, and other media as I deem necessary to complete the narrative. I use colors to illustrate the current state of being and texture to illustrate current environmental emotion. I’ve also created portraits of Black women who symbolize femininity and strength in times of turmoil.
My interest in abstract art came from watching the world go through the trauma of the COVID-19 pandemic. Abstraction allows the brush to flow freely. And much like life, there are curves, straight lines, abrupt ends, and fantastic splashes.
I’m influenced by current events and how I believe Black women respond or will respond. Each piece is a part of the world that needs to be highlighted or purged.
